Banquet Halls in New Town, Kolkata: Capacity, Prices and How to Choose
Why families choose New Town for weddings and receptions
New Town has changed a lot in the last fifteen years. Wide roads, planned blocks and newer buildings make it a practical choice for events. A few reasons families pick it:
- Close to home for residents. If you live in Action Area, Rajarhat, Chinar Park or nearby, your own family and neighbours can reach the hall quickly.
- Close to the airport. Relatives flying in from Delhi, Bengaluru or abroad can come straight from the airport without crossing the whole city.
- Modern amenities. Several New Town venues on Webanquets list lifts, air conditioning, sound systems and lighting among their amenities.
- Hotel options. Some venues are inside hotels, which helps when out-of-town guests need rooms near the function.
The trade-off is choice. New Town has fewer listed halls than older parts of Kolkata, so good dates in the winter wedding season can fill up early. Start your search well ahead.

A quick look at each venue
Basera Banquets is the largest on this list at 700 guests. Its page lists air conditioning, car parking, a lift, a sound system and lighting. The starting rate of ₹2,200 veg puts it at the premium end, so it suits a big reception where you want everything handled under one roof.
Mayuri Banquet is the budget-friendly pick, with starting rates of ₹750 veg and ₹850 non-veg for up to 500 guests. Its page mentions parking for 15 vehicles, two air-conditioned changing rooms, in-house catering and decoration, and it allows outside caterers and decorators. Listed hours are 10 am to 12 midnight, which matters if your function runs late.
Ibis Kolkata is a hotel option. Its page lists a party hall, three meeting rooms, valet parking and on-site dining. A hotel venue makes sense when many guests are travelling and need to stay close by. Ask about room blocks when you enquire.
Aquatica Luxury Resort works for a smaller, more relaxed function. The air-conditioned hall seats 200 and holds up to 350, and the property has a swimming pool and outdoor seating. Note the house rules on its page: no alcohol, no late-night music, no firecrackers, and bookings are non-cancellable. Outside caterers are allowed.
How to choose the right New Town banquet hall
1. Start with your real guest count
Make a rough list of family, friends and office colleagues before you look at halls. A hall listed for 500 guests may mean 500 floating guests, not 500 seated at once. Ask the venue how many people it can seat for a sit-down dinner and how many it can hold for a buffet.
2. Check parking honestly
Many relatives in Kolkata still drive or hire cars for weddings. Ask how many cars the venue can park, whether there is valet service, and where extra cars will go. One page we reviewed lists parking for 15 vehicles, which is fine for a small gathering but tight for a large reception.
3. Ask about catering rules
Some halls insist on their in-house kitchen. Others let you bring your own caterer. This makes a big difference to both the menu and the bill. If the hall allows outside caterers, you can pick a team that knows Bengali wedding food well, from shukto and mochar ghonto to mutton kosha and mishti doi.
4. Get the full quote, not just the per-plate rate
The starting price per plate is only the beginning. Ask what it includes and what it does not. Use this checklist:
- Is GST included or added on top?
- Are decoration, lighting and sound part of the package?
- Is there a separate charge for generator backup?
- Are there cleaning or service charges?
- How many hours does the booking cover, and what is the charge for extra time?
- How much advance is needed, and what happens if you cancel or change the date?
5. Visit at the same time as your function
If your reception is at 8 pm on a weekday, visit around that time. You will see the real traffic on the approach roads, how the lighting looks and whether the entrance is easy for elderly relatives.
New Town venue planning checklist
- Fix a budget range per plate and a total budget.
- Draw up a guest list with a seated and a buffet number.
- Shortlist three or four New Town halls that fit both.
- Ask each one for a written quote with every charge listed.
- Check parking, lift access and changing rooms.
- Confirm catering rules before you choose your caterer.
- Visit in person, then book and get the agreement in writing.
Planning the food for your New Town function
If your chosen hall allows outside caterers, food is your next big decision. Our catering partner, Senmaahashoy Caterers, has served Bengali and multi-cuisine menus at Kolkata weddings since 1992. Their menus start from ₹1,150 per plate + 5% GST, with the final price depending on the dishes and guest count. Ask them for a quote alongside your venue quote so you can compare the total cost properly.
